The world's number one ranked female tennis player in the world, Serena Williams, has just won her 700th career win when she beat Sabine Lisicki (7-6(4), 1-6, 6-3) on Wednesday. With the win, she also secured a spot in the semi-finals of the Miami Open.

She is only the eight player in WTA history to record as many as 700 match wins, joining fellow players such as Martina Navratilova who has an astounding 1,442 match wins.

Williams overcame a dreadful second set in order to overcome Lisicki who had pestered her opponent with her play.

All throughout the game, Williams' frustration was palpable and visible. She took out her frustrations on her racket, scolded herself for some mistakes, and shone her anger toward the sun that was in her face.

In the end though, Williams let out all her frustrations on the ball and came up on the winning side of her struggles.

She is set to face Romania's Simona Halep next. The third seed Halep earned her opportunity to face the best in the world by beating Sloane Stephens previously.

If Williams beats Halep, she will then find herself in familiar territory: in the position to win yet another championship to add to her impressive collection.

The two were slated to face each other in last month's semi-finals at the Indian Wells, but Williams sustained a knee injury. Halep then went on to beat Jelena Jankovic in the finals.

Williams and Halep are the two players who find themselves at the peak of women's tennis.

Apart from being the number one seed, Williams is on a 19-match winning streak. Halep on the other hand also boasts an impressive winning streak at 24-2.

While Williams seeks her eighth Miami title, Halep has the distinction of being the last person to beat her at the round robin stage of the WTA Finals in Singapore last October.
