Corporal Melinda Wray, the spokeswoman for the Norfolk Police, stated in the Virginia Pilot that the remains have not been confirmed to be those of Hadsell's who has been missing since the beginning of last month.
The paper also stated that friends and family members of Hadsell had all gathered at the household to await for any news from the police on the matter. A police car was stationed outside.
Neighbors commented that police began searching the property south of Franklin, which is 50 miles west of Norfolk. Their search began last Wednesday and ended the following day.
The search yielded a set of remains that were found in an area of grass. By the afternoon, investigators were focusing their search on a wooded area behind the house.
A freshman at Longwood, Hadsell was last seen walking in the neighbourhood of her parents' home.
While police initially stated that they did not suspect any foul play in the disappearance of Hadsell, they still conducted several investigations into the matter.
Hadsell's grandmother, Katherine Hadsell, told Foxnews.com that she was absolutely convinced there was foul play at work in her granddaughter's disappearance.
She commented that the disappearance was very uncharacteristic of Hadsell.
As an 18-year old who loves her family, running away is not a possibility.
The case of Hadsell took an odd turn when her stepfather, Wesley Hadsell, was arrested on several charges including obstruction of justice, breaking and entering, and possession of ammunition by a felon.
As of late, police officials have not commented whether or not Wesley Hadsell's arrest was connected to her stepdaughter's own case.
