Three Saudi Army officers were killed and two other soldiers were wounded when Shiite Houthi militants in Yemen fired a mortar round to the Saudi border post in the province of Najran.

The incident further created fatal attacks from both sides as the Houthi militants are aggressively responding to the airstrikes conducted by the Saudi forces.

"This confirms that the Houthis have been able to come close enough to the border to hit the guards," according to the Saudi Arabia's Defense Ministry.

Saudi forces fired back at the Houthis, bringing the fatalities at the Houthi side to more than 500 since the time Saudi led an offensive coalition against the Houthis at the Yemeni border three weeks ago.

The incident also brought the fatalities from the side of Saudi forces to six since the launched of the offensive campaign.

According to some experts, this recent clash could edify Saudi's tactics in dealing head-on against the Houthi militants.

Operation Decisive Storm

Saudi Arabia is taking the lead in a coalition among predominantly Sunni nations against the Houthi militants in Yemen under what they call the Operations Decisive Storm. The said offensive operation is composed with eight Arab and North African nations.

The campaign aims to force the Houthis to resume peace talks and to bring back President Abdurabuh Mansur Hadi as the legitimate government leader of Yemen.

Since the launch of the campaign, the Saudi-led coalition has been conducting series of air strikes as it ruled-out the conduct of ground troop attacks.

As part of its tactical offensive, Saudi has strengthened its military force along the 1,100-mile border with Yemen.

Since the start of the campaign, the coalition has already launched 1,200 air strikes which allegedly killed not only Houthi militants but also around 200 Yemeni civilians who were living along the target areas.

Meanwhile, Russia called for the assistance of the United Nations Security Council to bring a "humanitarian pause" in this bloody conflict. It also advocated for a diplomatic solution to this crisis which adversely affect innocent civilians.
