Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge Owners Will Receive Uber Discount Rides

(Photo : Reuters) Uber has partnered with Samsung to offer cheaper deals to Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge owners.
Uber has announced a new partnership with Samsung by offering $25 of free credit to all Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge customers. The credit reward should be available for customers regardless of region, meaning it will not be another U.S. only reward.
The mobile taxi company has used promotional offers like this before to woo over customers. It's the first time a smartphone company has been the partner though, with previous promotional offers coming from carriers or third-party resellers.

"We are excited about the combination of Samsung's reach and Uber's global footprint -- in 300 cities across 56 countries -- that means riders around the world can get wherever they need to go, whenever they choose with the simple touch of a button," said Lars Fjeldsoe-Nielsen, vice president of mobile at Uber.
Samsung customers can redeem this reward by going onto the Galaxy Gifts widget and downloading the Uber application. The account will automatically receive $25 discount on the next taxi ride, hopefully enough for more than one trip.
Similar to Netflix's one month free trial, Uber believes if a customer has one or two rides using the mobile device, it will be enough to wean them from normal cab services and onto the mobile application.
Uber has tried the promotion before on AT&T, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile and O2 Telefonica and we suspect Uber has completed analytical checks to make sure the promotion is converting new users into seasoned Uber riders.
Uber recently received $1.6 billion from Goldman Sachs in another funding round, valuing the company at $45 billion. It's one of the hottest private companies in the world and reports of an IPO have been brewing for years now.
The issue with an IPO is Uber still faces many challenges in regulation across the world, which could make the stock bouncy depending on one country's disapproval. It might be waiting to sort a few things out in Southeast Asia where it's finding the most resistance before making the company public.
Uber does have a few competitors in the taxi service market. In the West, Lyft is trying to win over customers with its car sharing initiatives and in the East, plenty of mobile taxi services are available that offer a similar service to Uber but with a local touch.
