The 22-year old singer, who has not been seen on the red carpet since December, debuted his new look at the Asian Awards in London on Friday and shocked his loyal fans who once praised his Uncle Jesse hair.
Most of his fanbase took to twitter and instagram to share their opinion on their idol's new look.
One fan compared Zayn's new look to that of Justin Timberlake and Nick Jonas calling the new hairdo "The I am shaving my head and leaving the band to become a solo artist" look. Timberlake and Jonas famously shaved off their famous curly long locks after leaving their respective groups.
Directioners, on the other hand, are taking the new look as a sign of Zayn missing his former bandmate Liam Payne. One fan tweeted Liam saying that Zayn's new look is due to the fact that Zayn misses him, Liam has yet to respond to the tweet.
Zayn has not sported this look since his early days in Britain's The X Factor, and sources say he decided to shave off his hair and get a nose piercing to get farther away from his boy band days and introduce fans to the new Zayn Malik.
