Apple Watch will be Available in Select Stores This Friday

(Photo : Reuters) Apple only managed to ship a quarter of the Apple Watch pre-orders.
Most Apple Watch units are on backorder until June with customers that pre-ordered the device having to wait until May for the arrival.
Even with the backlog, several high-end fashion stores are promoting the April 24 launch day claiming they'll have stock of the device tomorrow.

Considering Apple's own retail stores won't be supplying units until June, it looks like Apple sent out units to these high-end retailers before the influx of buyers jumped onto what little stock remained.
The stores, located in Tokyo, London, Los Angeles, Berlin, Milan, and Paris, will have between 100 and 2,000 units available at launch. There's no word on whether there will be any backup units from Apple sent when stock runs out although we suspect once the stock runs out, that's it until June.
Stores will include Selfridges, Dover Street Market and other high-end retailers based in the cities aforementioned. Apple wants to make sure shoppers that tend to spend thousands at these stores get a first-hand view of the Apple Watch without the queues and kerfuffle Apple's own retail stores bring.
For customers desperate to get the Apple Watch, this might be a way to pick-up the unit instead of waiting until June. That said, there's no online ordering from these high-end fashion retailers and prices may be even higher than normal.
The Apple Watch Edition will not be available at these high-end retailers or will be in very limited supply. The launch of the $10,000 smartwatch has attracted thousands of buyers, accounting for one percent of the total Apple Watch sales.
Angela Ahrendts, chief of retail at Apple, has confirmed most units will be out of stock until June with some even running into July wait lists. Rumors of supply issues with LG Display seem to be the main cause of delays combined with Apple undervaluing the amount of pre-orders it would receive.
Sales announcements might be held off until Apple's next quarterly report or WWDC 2015 in June. Analysts expect Apple has sold two million units before the launch tomorrow, with an expected 10 million before the end of 2015.
