The eighth season of the CBS hit promises to show how Penny's "smart decisions" regarding a career causes friction between her and her now-fiancé Leonard, played by actor Johnny Galecki.

Penny is played by actress Kaley Cuoco.

Chuck Lorre, the show's creator and executive producer, said at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour that Penny will have an interesting story arc this coming season, especially since her character has always been plagued with career failure.

Lorre shared, "She gets a shot to be a pharmaceutical rep at Bernadette's [Melissa Rauch] company."

Her new career will bring her more money, causing a power shift in her relationship with Leonard, who used to be more financially well-off.

According to Lorre, Penny will be developing the confidence she never achieved as an actress, adding that her self-esteem will be "in great heaping doses."

In last season's finale, the "Big Bang Theory" featured Penny deciding to veer away from acting after being fired from an awful B-movie.

Like every other season, season 8 has not been fully plotted out just yet. However, Lorre shared that the core focus of season 8 will be a significant progression of the relationships between the main characters.

Lorre shared that the characters will be dealing with more issues and conflicts as their narratives progress, saying that when they started the series, they would have never imagined the stories and relationships the characters would be having these past years.

He commented, "Sheldon [Jim Parsons] has grown unbelievably over seven years from where we began."

Despite the fact that renegotiations between the cast and management have yet to progress, Lorre thinks the issue will work itself out and that production will continue as scheduled.

The eighth season of "Big Bang Theory" is set to return on Monday, September 22, before returning to its Thursday timeslot starting October 30.
