According to media reports, the shirt she was sporting became a controversial topic among citizens of Korea since there had been a sensitive history between the country and Japan. In 1913, Japan invaded Korea and has occupied the country for decades until the end of the Second World War
Up until now, many Koreans still hold a negative sentiment regarding Japanese imperialism and images that represent the mere notion of it usually incurs criticism. Reports say that the 25-year old actress' choice to wear said shirt could be likened to wearing the Nazi symbol in Israel.
Despite the fact that many Hollywood stars also committed an error by wearing outfits with the same design concept upon their arrival in Korea, there are still many Korean citizens, particularly netizens, who are very vocal about their displeasure regarding the matter.
Furthermore, many have pointed out that it was not the first time the 'Twilight' star will be visiting the county which made many people think that her actions are not excusable.
In related news, Stewart was featured in the summer issue of Harper Bazaar UK.
On her interview for said magazine, the actress openly criticized Hollywood, calling it 'disgustingly sexist'. Stewart expressed her thoughts about the industry, opening up about her belief that women 'inevitably' have to work harder because 'Hollywood is disgustingly sexist'.
As for her career, the actress stars in the new flick 'The Clouds of Sils Maria' and plays the role of an assistant alongside actress Juliette Binoche.
