Russia's Progress-59 Spacecraft Spun Out of Control at 17,000 mph and Burned in the Earth's Atmosphere

Russia's unmanned Progress-59 Spacecraft spun out of control at 17,000 mph and fell from its scheduled orbit at 10:04 pm EDT. It burned up in the Earth's atmosphere after its unsuccessful supply run to the International Space Station.

The spacecraft was filled to the brim with fuel, around three tons of food and other essential supplies for the station crew, who are stationed at the International Space Station. When it plunged into the atmosphere then it was directly above the Pacific Ocean, according to Wired.

Due to the enormous speed of the spacecraft, it is expected that it would also burn up at an astonishing rate along with the material on-board; however, scientists warn that some debris could still make their way to Earth and can be later found in the Pacific Ocean, according to Telegraph.

Progress-59 Spacecraft was launched into space from the Kazakhstan based Baikonur Cosmodrome on April 28. Its mission was to carry fuel, food and other essential and critical supplies to the crew of the ISS. The mission was totally unsuccessful as it never reached the ISS.

From the very launch of the spacecraft there was something amiss as the ground controllers immediately lost contact with the craft, nine minutes after its launch. It separated from the Soyuz-rocket and immediately all mayhem broke loose.

The authorities have launched an investigation to find the apparent causes, which could have affected the successful conduct of the spacecraft. This is not the first time that a Progress Spacecraft has not been successful in its mission. In the past, there have been two other instances in which the spacecraft failed their missions. All in all, Russia has sent 62 Progress spacecrafts into space so far.

In comparison, all of SpaceX's missions have been successful till now.
