President Barack Obama selected three mothers in Minnesota, Arizona and Florida for the Mother's Day Surprise of the White House. The three women have reportedly, through the years, wrote letters to the president, thanking him for the Affordable Care Act and expressing his support for a higher minimum wage.

In one of the calls, Obama said that mothers do "the most important work there is" and that he wouldn't be where he is if it weren't for his mother.

The women, who Obama referred to as Stephanie, Dawn and Patty, were understandably were shocked and wouldn't believe Obama at first, prompting the smiling president to ask one of the mothers to "test" him to prove that he is indeed Obama.

One of the facts about Barack Obama is that his mom, Stanley Ann Dunham, hailed from Kansas. Time noted that Dunham died of cancer in 1995, about a decade from when he took office and became the first black president of the United States.

Elsewhere and around the world, daughters and sons, old and young, are expressing their appreciation of their mothers through social media postings.

Hollywood celebrities like Ryan Reynolds, Kim Kardashian West and Justin Bieber have took to Twitter and Instagram to greet their beloved mothers on this special day.

Yao Chen, famous Chinese acress with the most number of followers on Weibo, also used the platform to talk about Mother's Day.

Search engine leader Google, also famous for its animated logo replacements on Google.com during holidays and special occasions, celebrated Mother's Day with a very cute representation of a mother's care - "mothers of all shapes, sizes, and species."
