"Castle"

There was much uncertainty surrounding the future of "Castle." ABC put an end to that when it officially confirmed "Castle" Season 8. The show will be returning with two new showrunners, Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter. Nathan Fillion, who plays the titular character, has signed a new contract confirming that he will be returning to reprise his role. But Stana Katic, who plays Kate Beckett on the show, has yet to sign her new contract, and because of this, Caskett fans are still in the anxiety zone.

"Grey's Anatomy"

Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) is dead, but "Grey's Anatomy" still has plenty of stories to tell. The long-running show has been renewed for Season 12. It is not clear if the upcoming season will be the last, as the contract of Ellen Pompeo, who plays the principal character Meredith Grey, will be up for renewal after "Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 wraps up.

"Modern Family"

The multiple Emmy award winning series "Modern Family" will return with Season 7 this fall. This single-camera comedy may have seen better days when it comes to ratings, but it is still holding on to its number two scripted-comedy spot, after CBS's "The Big Bang Theory," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Scandal"

The renewal of "Scandal" for Season 5 does not come as a surprise. It continues to be in the top 10, if one considers "DVR," THR reported. Creator Shonda Rhimes, however, has no plans of making "Scandal" a long-running show like "Grey's Anatomy." The new season is likely to introduce a new gladiator.

"Once Upon a Time"

The fairy tale drama series "Once Upon a Time" is returning with Season 5. THR reported that the series has been generating solid viewership ratings for ABC on Sundays. [Spoiler Alert] The new season will see Emma returning as the new big bad.

ABC has also officially confirmed "Nashville" Season 4, "Agents of SHIELD" Season 3, and "The Goldbergs" Season 3. Some 2014 freshman shows that will be returning for Season 2 are "Agent Carter," "American Crime," "Secret and Lies," "Fresh Off the Boat," "How to Get Away with Murder" and "Black-ish."
