Smartphone Industry in China’s Market Slows Down in the First Quarter

Marketing research firm IDC stated the current status of China in the phone industry, detailing the decline of smartphone shipments in China for the first time in six years while the rest of its competitor continuously hit the market.

From January to February the total amount of unit shipped dropped by 98.8 million units from 4% computation a year ago. This sounds alarming for the China's phone production and action must be taken before it continues to fall by the end of the year. The firm added that there is too much unsold stock build up and the growing Chinese mobile market leaves it behind.

Kitty Fok, IDC China managing director stated that China is always perceived as a developing market but the truth is it sells the same type of smartphones like the rest of mature market such as Australia, Japan, UK and US.

The best thing China's market will do, is to persuade its users and future users to upgrade to new smartphones manufactured by the country itself.

In year 2011, China was able to exceed US in becoming the largest smartphone market in the world, according to a report published by The Wall Street Journal.

For this year, China's market is at stake especially that it becomes static in the market and IDC expect the flat growth in the coming months. As a result investors and other Chinese manufacturers will seek new place to grow their business by joining the competitive global market like India and South East Asia.

China's Xiaomi has been left behind by US tech giant Apple, during the first quarter. Apple has been the top smartphone provider according to IDC because consumer loves the largest screen shown in the latest iPhone series.

Currently, Xiaomi rates 13.7% in the market while Apple has 14.7%. According to Chinese smartphone creator, their focus now is on abroad.

Last April, the chairman emeritus of the Tata Corporation Ratan Tata, purchased a stake in in Xiaomi. This might be one of the earliest plans of smartphone makers to expand its sales to the world's third largest market.
