Inbee Park and So Yeon Ryu shot birdies in the playoff round good enough to eliminate the U.S., securing a wild-card berth at the LPGA International Crown.
The Americans' Paula Creamer and Stacy Lewis couldn't match Cristie Kerr and Lexi Thompson's performance as they lost their match against Thailand's Pornanong Phatlum and Onnarin Sattayabanphot placing third in their group.
The South Koreans also finished third in their group, thus needing a playoff for the wild card against the U.S.
Park and Ryu were chosen to represent the South Koreans while Kerr and Thompson represented the United States. The deciding hole of the playoff was on the par-5 16th hole.
After Park, Ryu and Kerr converted their birdie putts. Thompson was left at the green for a 10-foot putt but missed, ending the top seeds International Crown quest.
The top two teams from both pools plus the winner of the playoffs between the third place finishers will advance to the singles round Sunday for the International Crown title and coming into the final day of the elimination round Saturday, both South Korea and the United States have four points, placing them second in their respective pools.
Sweden eliminated Australia by winning both of their games to place them second in Pool B while South Korea split their matches against Japan thus landing them third spot while Japan sits atop.
Spain had a field day against Chinese Taipei as the Taiwanese pair just couldn't maintain their first day romp against the United States and lost both matches that ended their quest in Pool A.
South Korea will now move onto Sunday's final round along with Japan, Thailand, Spain and Sweden. Their accumulated points will be carried over and one singles match will determine who will get the title at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland.
