Cuba's Lung Cancer Vaccine To Be Shared With United States; Clinical Trials To Start At Roswell Park Cancer Institute

(Photo : Reuters) A new diagnostic test from the diagnostic center Veracyte can be used to avoid the risky and costly lung cancer biopsies, in a world where millions of people who smoke are eligible and are living with the potential risk of being diagnosed with the deadly disease.

Living upto its promises made long back, Cuba, the country known for its Tobacco all over the world, is all set to share its state of the art Lung Cancer Vaccine with the United States. This gesture comes in the backdrop of the New York's governor Andrew Cuomo's visit to Havana and the subsequent agreement with Cuba's Centre for Molecular Immunology with the Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Cadace Johnson, the CEO of Roswell Park, has expressed her consternation to the News Australia about the capability of a small country like Cuba to develop such pioneering vaccine. She adds that this is a living proof of the country's creativity and remarks that Cubans have the capability to do more using less. Furthermore, she dubs the opportunity to work on this drug as a very interesting prospect.

This is a landmark collaboration between the two countries, which is all set to foster a new era in the area of medical history.It is said that the development of the lung cancer vaccine fosters belief that in the future, the monster of cancer can be tamed with new-age drugs and vaccines.

The Cimavax Vaccine, which was developed in 2011, is all set to improve the relations between two nations who have been enemies since the Cold War. The 55 years enmity for both the nations has resulted in a loss of over 100 million dollars.

Latin Post reported that clinical trials, as approved by the Food and Drug Administration, are all set to start at Roswell Park. This becomes imperative as preliminary trials have revealed that this drug has been found to possess a little toxicity.
