(Photo : Reuters) The United States and China are set for high-stakes rivalry in skies above the South China Sea.
The USS Fort Worth, a littoral combat ship of the U.S. navy, sent off a reconnaissance drone as a military observation as well as Seahawk, a U.S. navy helicopter, to patrol and keep watch over the airspace in the disputed Spratly islands in the South China Sea.
A statement on the U.S. navy site said that the United States Navy sent the littoral combat ship and the Seahawk helicopter to patrol over the disputed area, according to Reuters.

According to a senior U.S. commander, Beijing's declaration of its Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the area is inevitable. "It's not inevitable but if we are betting paychecks I'll bet that they will eventually declare one, I just don't know when," the senior commander said.
The littoral combat ship's moves were considered to be a demonstration of U.S. ability when Beijing declares the ADIZ. The declaration event is also inevitable according to the military officials of U.S., the report added. According to the U.S. navy, the littoral combat ship USS Fort Worth is to conduct patrol in international waters in South China Sea near the area of the Spratly islands.
There is an increased concern from the U.S. about the possible declaration that China might impose restrictions in Spratly islands' air and sea, once China is finished in its work on the seven artificial islands, according to Yahoo News.
Richard Bitzinger, security analysts at S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore, said an analysis about China and the reclamations. "Even with the new reclamations, it is going to be a stretch for China to routinely enforce such a zone that far south," he said.
Meanwhile, Zhang Baohui, security expert at Lingnan University in Hong Kong, said something about U.S presence and confrontation risk which states "It has a built-in dynamic for unintended escalation."
