‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Soars to $1 Billion on the Worldwide Box Office

In just a span of 24 days since its release, "Avengers: Age of Ultron" passed the $1 billion mark worldwide. Quite unsurprisingly, this marks Marvel Studios' third film to reach a billion in gross profits since 2012. The other films that managed to reap this honor were the first "Avengers" movie, and 2013's "Iron Man 3".

"Age of Ultron" has started out strong, as it opened internationally on April 22 as the number one debut film in practically every market. When it opened in China on May 12, it reaped a massive $34 million in profits, making it the biggest opening day ever for the company. The second Avengers film's opening in the U.S. of $191.3 ranked a distant second.

Disney, who owns the rights to the Marvel films, marks "Age of Ultron" as its eight entry in a long line of films who quickly passed the billion mark. The other films include "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides", "Toy Story 3", "Alice in Wonderland", and of course, 2013's "Frozen", one of Disney's latest tributes to its classic filmmaking legacy.

Fortunately for Disney, and unfortunately for its competitors, the media giant's 2015 is just getting started. Upcoming films like "Tomorrowland", Pixar's "Inside Out", and Marvel's "Ant Man", is expected to set new records when they open.

Despite this massive worldwide reception though, many fans' awe were somewhat lessened when it comes to "Age of Ultron's" storyline. An article published in Forbes.com claims that the events in the movie seem to have been downplayed, probably in anticipation of the next big film in the franchise: "Captain America: Civil War".

Whatever the case may be, there's no denying the fact that fans all around the world are praising "Age of Ultron", and Marvel's newest slew of movies in general. What happens within the Marvel Cinematic Universe unfolds with the next films in the studio's repertoire.
