India, China Bilateral Agreement: Agrees To Open Chinese Consulate In Chennai And Chengdu

On May 15, Friday, the second day of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first visit to the communist country, China and India entered a record-breaking 24 contracts in key sectors like setting up consulates in Chengdu and Chennai.
The 24 agreements signed by Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang in China and Modi includes Memorandum of Understanding on consultative mechanism for cooperation in trade negotiations.

Business Today reported that an action plan between the China National Railways and Indian Railways on developing cooperation in the railway industry was also agreed by the two parties. According to Modi, they have signed more than 20 agreements with different areas of collaboration. It is said that this shows the maturity and the depth of both countries’ positive direction and relationship of their partnership. He further added that their decision to open consulates in Chennai and Chengdu signifies growing shared commitment and confidence to expand their relationship.
Space Cooperation Outline and MoU education exchange programme, ocean sciences, agreements on mining and minerals, education exchange programme, tourism, skills development and vocational eductaion and maritime cooperation were also included in the agreement. Four more agreements were signed on sister city and sister-state relations between Sichuan and Karnataka province, Chongqing and Chennai, Qingdao and Hyderabad, Dunhuang and Aurangabad.
Zeenews said that The Mahatma Gandhi skill center in Ahmedabad was also part of the agreement, besides a broadcast tie-up for China’s state-run CCTV and Doordarshan. Two MoUs between Yunnan Minzu University, Fudan University and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) completed the list so that a Yoga college and centre for Gandhian and Indian studies will be built in China.
Meanwhile, PM Modi had fun with children by taking selfies with them at the Yoga-Taichi joint event in Beijing. He stressed that yoga could help the children achieve health care that the world needs.
