Wang told Kerry that the extradition treaty between the two countries is necessary, the report added. "Looking at the long-term development of bilateral relations, it is necessary to conclude a bilateral extradition treaty and I hope that both sides can start talks as soon as possible," Wang told to Kerry according to the foreign ministry's website in China. Moreover, the treaty would become a major destination for the runaways suspected of corruption, Wang said.
If the extradition treaty is agreed between U.S. and China, it would be a big help for the anti-corruption campaign of China, Operation "Fox Hunt," as the treaty would let Beijing search for the suspected corrupt fugitives beyond its borders, Reuters reported.
Last month, the Ministry of Public Security of China released information of fugitives as posted by Chinese Central Commission for Discipline Inspection online in its campaign to search for the suspects, known to have moved to other countries such as Canada, Australia and the U.S.
Wang aimed to have a strengthen cooperation between the U.S. and China, as this extradition treaty would help China for the fugitives to be sent back to their country including the stolen assets, Xinhua reported. Wang also recognized in his remark that the U.S. has become the suspected corrupt fugitives' top destination, where he said "The purpose of China's anti-corruption campaign is to build a clean government, improve the market economic order and create a good environment for fair competition, which will also help American enterprises to better operate their businesses in China," Wang said.
