Boxing News: Roger Mayweather Says Mayweather-Pacquiao II Should “Close The Door” For Nephew

Roger Mayweather, uncle of the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and pay-per-view king Floyd Mayweather Jr., is not someone who backs out when given the chance to air his opinion. And he did just that in an interview with Jenna J of On The Ropes Boxing Radio.

Jenna asked him about his insight on how Floyd's win over Manny Pacquiao earlier this month would affect his nephew's legacy. Here was his reply:

"Floyd's legacy is going to be good but he needs to close that legacy with Pacquiao. He needs to go back and him and Pacquiao need to do it again. That's what I think. To close the door in terms of victory, that's what he needs to do."

Roger, Roger. Now we know you want a rematch.

The older Mayweather added that a rematch with the PacMan "would put him amongst the greatest fighters" and that his nephew already has a good legacy. But he insisted that Floyd has "got to close the thing with Pacquiao" because the world respects the fighting pride of the Philippines and he is one of the most popular boxers right now.

As reported by Edward Chaykovsky of Boxing Scene, Floyd is projected to fight again on September 12, and claims to retire afterward. But Pacquiao, who is still recuperating from his recent shoulder surgery and is expected to be out for more than a year, might return to the ring on the second quarter of 2016 at the very least.

However, the bottomline is Uncle Roger wants Floyd to fight Manny again. Period.
