Rockstar Games to BBC: 'Stop Grand Theft Auto Series or We'll Sue'

Rockstar Games is suing BBC and is ordering the station to stop the production of the "Grand Theft Auto" series after allegedly not agreeing to terms set by the video game producers.

Rockstar Games, creator of the highly popular "Grand Theft Auto" video games and "Max Payne" franchise is suing the British Broadcasting Company for trademark infringement on the movie "Game Changer." The series, as Geek Tyrant reports, is already done filming and is supposedly on post-production status. After the lawsuit incident however, it is highly possible that the 90-minute series might never reach the small screen.

Set to follow the controversy of the "Grand Theft Auto" games and the anti-violence lawyer Jack Thompson, "Game Changer" already had Bill Paxton and Daniel Radcliffe on board as Atty. Thompson and Rockstar president and founder Sam Houser respectively. The Verge also reports that Take-Two, current owner of Rockstar Games, released a statement which says that they have tried several times to contact the BBC regarding their issues on the series, but to no avail; BBC declined to comment on the issue.

Many theories have been cooked up as to why the lawsuit has been served, since as Forbes pointed out, there have been a lot of notable movies about companies as well as the people related to those companies that have been done in the past. Top of mind biopics include "The Social Network" by David Fincher, "Jobs," which starred Ashton Kutcher as the titular character, and another Steve jobs movie in the works which will star Michael Fassbender as the Apple inventor.

And that's just three movies. There have been countless in the past, and unless Rockstar sees something slanderous or name-destroying from the movie, the lawsuit does not necessarily carry any weight against BBC. Hopefully Rockstar eventually sees the light and withdraws the case, because there is a long list of fans waiting for the series and it is still growing.
