Boxing News 2015: Floyd Mayweather Gives Clue at Final Challenger on September

Immediately after Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) won "The Fight of the Century" against Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao early this month, he said that his last fight is going to be on September.

When asked about his future plans, Boxing Scene's Edward Chaykovsky reported that Mayweather reaffirms that he wants to "walk away from the ring" as a winner. Money gave a little hint, though, of who he plans to compete against this fall.

"I don't really know at this particular time," Mayweather said, referring to his possible final opponent. "I'm pretty sure that we're going to find a style of guy who is going to push me for that last fight. And when I go out, I want to go out with a bang. I want to bring different R&B stars, R&B legends, rap stars - let them all perform. We want to put on a crazy, crazy show for this last fight and give them what they want to see."

With the possibility of a rematch with Pacquiao shelved and out of the picture because of the PacMan's injured right shoulder, a lot of speculations are arising that Mayweather was talking about British star Amir Khan, who will be fighting Chris Algieri on May 29, as his possible final challenger, according to Yahoo Sports' Joe Garza.

Khan's name had been coming up since the aftermath of the Mayweather-Pacquiao bout, and Khan himself intimated it right there in Las Vegas as reported in Sports Illustrated. Khan disclosed that Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe approached him right after the fight at ringside.

"I think Mayweather's team want the fight - but I've spoken to Manny's team and they've said the same thing, that they want a fight," Khan said. "I really believe I have Mayweather's number, and I'm ready for whatever he wants," he added.
