Facebook is all set to roll out a new feature for its Messenger app that gives users some clues such as location and job title on who is trying to start a chat with them.
The popular social networking service Facebook today rolled out a new feature for its Messenger app that gives users some indications before they consider responding to a message that could be from some rando or a spammer. The app will now display publicly shared biographical info, including job title and current city, right at the top of the message threads from Facebook users you have not chatted with before.

The update will be released today, May 22, on iOS and Android devices in the United States, U.K., India and France, according to TechCrunch.
For an existing Facebook friend, who the user has not messaged before, Messenger can still display publicly shared information.
For instance, if a user receives a message from someone he/she is not friends with, Facebook Messenger could show that they are "Bloggers" from "India." This way, the Facebook user will know the person sending the message is someone they actually know, thus raising the chance receiving a reply.
Facebook's Vice President of Messaging David Marcus calls it "enhanced caller ID for messaging." The features displays the same pieces of information shown by Facebook's Hello caller ID app for Android, Engadget noted.
Since Messenger will only surface information that is shared publicly, whether it is about people you are not friends with or you have already added, it does not bypass privacy control.
Both the chat ID and caller ID features are indication of Facebook's growing interest in connecting its users to and offering context about all the people in their life, not just their friends. This could help create new friend connections on its social network service and also places Facebook as an important tool for people's professional life.
