The one-year extension amounts to $9.5 million as his current contract would pay him $1.5 million in 2015 and $3 million from 2016 to 2018. The Cowboys organization reportedly want to reward him for his great performance last season, believing that he was their best cornerback, as reported by ESPN's Todd Archer.
The details of Scandrick's revised contract would be $4 million this year and $9 million over the next two seasons, as tweeted by NFL Network's Albert Breer.
"I thank the Jones family. I'm grateful ... it's a blessing and I can't put into words how appreciative I am of the Dallas Cowboys organization and the Jones family," Scandrick told CBS Dallas' Mike Fisher.
The 28-year-old California native was picked in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He has gradually improved as one of the team's best defensive specialists throughout the years. He recorded 315 tackles, 9.5 sacks, seven interceptions and four forced fumbles in 102 games of his career. He started in 29 of the last 30 Cowboys games.
Last season, he was suspended for the first two games, but still finished with "54 tackles one sack, two tackles for loss, two picks, 11 pass deflections and two forced fumbles," as per ESPN.
With the deal, Dallas made sure that the team will be heading into this year's training camp with one of their best defenders happy and satisfied.
