(Photo : Reuters/Vincent Kessler) American automaker Ford Motor Co. has issued a recall for almost half a million cars after four minor accidents due to mechanical faults.
Ford Motors Company has issued two safety recalls on Wednesday that will affect up to 442,314 cars. The recall, which has been described as the first and biggest recall by the car manufacturer in North America, stems from a potential issue with the electrical power steering in certain Ford models.

The company said all sold 2011-2013 Ford Taurus and Flex vehicles, Lincoln MKS and MKT vehicles, as well as certain 2011-2012 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles, and certain 2011 Mercury Milan vehicles will be affected.
Although the reported accidents from the faulty power steering did not result in any casualty or injuries, Ford said car owners should go to their dealers for a service fix, which involves either a software update or steering gear replacement.
The second safety recall, affecting 19,500 2015 Ford Mustang vehicles, was due to the elevated underbody temperatures found in the car's 2.3-liter engine. Approximately 19,500 2015 Ford Mustang vehicles produced at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant and sold from February 14, 2014 to February 10, 2015 were also affected by this problem, according to Click On Detroit.
Ford said dealers have been instructed to replace the Mustang's fuel tank shield and install thermal patches and thermal wraps.
The global automotive company added that there have been no reported accidents, injuries or fires from the said Mustang-related condition. However, the company noted that the issue could possibly cause a fire.
"Prolonged exposure to elevated underbody temperatures might cause the parking brake cable seals to degrade, potentially affecting parking brake functions. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire," according to the statement.
An all-American motor company and one of the most recognized names in the auto industry, Ford also holds the title of the biggest ever auto recall in history.
CNN noted that in 1980, 21 million Ford vehicles were withdrawed due to a problem with the park and reverse gears.
