Smartphones can soon be powered inside the comfort of a luxurious Cadillac.
General Motors said wireless smartphone charging will be available for some of its 2014 model-year Cadillacs.
The Detroit-based automaker is planning to integrate wireless charging technology developed by its partner, Powermat, that GM's venture capital arm financed years ago.

GM said the first automobiles to have the Powermat capability will be the 2015 Cadillac ATS sedan and coupe.
It's also planning to make this technology available at the end of 2014 on the 2015 Cadillac CTS sedan and the 2015 Cadillac Escalade sport-utility vehicle.
Powermat technology lets drivers or passengers charge their smartphones by placing it in a bin tucked behind the center-console panel. The bin swings upward with a touch of a button.
Powermat's rubberized pad generates an electromagnetic field that charges the batteries. The technology will work on most wirelessly chargeable devices.
"Our lifestyles have evolved in a more mobile way than ever before and with that comes an even greater need for access to power in those places where we spend the majority of our time," said Ran Poliakine, Powermat Chief Executive.
He added the integration of the system in Cadillacs is only the first step in the evolution of portable power.
The system also allows users to use their phones while making or receiving calls. It's called the Cadillac User Experience infotainment system via Bluetooth technology.
General Motors invested US$5 million in Powermat in January 2011.
