Despite unrelenting effort displayed by his opponent, Amir Khan emerged victorious via unanimous decision against Chris Algieri. The Bolton native, who now has a record of 31-3, hopes that his latest victory is enough to persuade the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. to give him a title shot.

The bout against Chris Algieri was held at the Barclays Center in New York. Sports analysts attributed Khan's victory to his superior hand speed as well as excellent ring movement.
Chris Algieri on the other hand gave was in excellent form. The American tried to nullify Khan's superior hand speed by closing the distance but this strategy was proved to be futile. Khan strutted his way to the 12th round hitting Algieri with blinding jabs and counter punches, according to The Guardian.
Algieri was put out of his comfort zone all throughout the bout. Playing the role of the consummate boxer on most of his fights and urging his opponents to play defense, Algieri took the role of the stalker against Khan, according to Bleacher Report.
Although Algieri landed some big punches all throughout the bout, it lacked power that could have knocked down or at least hurt Khan. This is Algieri's second consecutive loss following the embarrassing performance against Manny Pacquiao which saw him drop to the canvas six times. Algieri's record now stands at 20 wins with eight coming by way of knockout and two losses.
Two ringside judges scored the bout 117-111 while the other one scored 115-113 all in favor of Khan, according to Sky Sports.
At the post fight interview, Khan did not hesitate to call out the current pound-for-pound king Mayweather Jr. Khan has been on the chase for Mayweather for quite some time already. Mayweather has a scheduled bout in September with still unannounced opponent.
On the other hand, many sports analysts were not impressed by the performance Khan showed on his latest bout. Rumors has it that instead of chasing Mayweather, Khan should first face the undefeated Kell Brook in order to prove his worth.
