In the aftermath of British star Amir Khan's 12-round unanimous decision victory over American Chris Algieri, some boxing analysts have criticized his performance saying that he no longer deserves to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., according to an article from Bryan Armen Graham of The Guardian.

Graham wrote that the Briton's performance against Algieri on the evening of May 29 at the Barclays Center in New York was a "flat note," which did not make his case to be Mayweather's last bout a sure thing for the 28-year-old.

The fight with Algieri was supposed to showcase Khan's lightning-quick punches, ring intelligence and swift reflexes that would have been enough to make him a worthy final adversary of the pound-for-pound and pay-per-view king on September.

However, King Khan barely managed to escape with the win as Algieri pushed himself to the limit for the whole duration of the fight with persistent attacks and solid punches. Khan was indeed surprised that the American, who was beaten and floored six times by Manny Pacquiao in his previous fight, would fight forward the entire match instead of backpedalling.

After the fight, Khan admitted that "style makes fights" and Algieri's fighting style was designed to beat a fighter like him.

Nonetheless, when all was said and done, what's important was that he won.

Meanwhile, Khan told Bleacher Report's Lyle Fitzsimmons that "boxing needs a young lion" and that he believes that he can definitely beat the sport's current top dog, Mayweather. Immediately after the Algieri fight, he calls out Money and said that everybody knows he wants to be the last opponent of "the best ever" in September.

For the past couple of years, Khan's name was always mentioned as the potential next opponent of the unbeaten champion, but it never materialized.

It should also be remembered that Mayweather called out Khan's name after Mayweather-Maidana II. But as fate would have it, "The Fight of the Century" happened and Mayweather-Khan was again postponed.

Khan promises to "revert to his former self" in his following fight, as per The Daily Mail's Jeff Powell. Khan admits that he was disappointed with himself against Algieri and that he intends to talk with his trainer, Virgil Hunter, with regards to that evening's "sub-par" performance.
