Boxing News & Rumors: Manny Pacquiao Needs To Take Pay Cut For Possible Rematch With Floyd Mayweather

The Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Manny Pacquiao saga continues with some latest reports regarding their potential second fight next year.

Boxing News 24's Chris Williams said that for Mayweather to accept a rematch with Pacquiao, Manny needs to take a significant pay cut considering his lackluster performance during their May 2 bout dubbed as "The Fight of the Century."

And the way that the Filipino did not accept the loss afterwards and instead blamed an injured shoulder for it, which prompted the pay-per-view king to call him a "coward" and a "sore loser," will even make it harder for him to get a 60-40 purse split once again, Williams writes in his article.

Williams added that "while Mayweather has said that he's not giving the Filipino fighter a second chance at fighting him" the undefeated American may "change his mind about the subject" if the purse will be 70-30 or 75-25 in his favor.

Needless to say, a 75-25 split for a match worth more than $200 million would still be the most lucrative for Pacquiao when he fights again next year. Twenty five percent would be more than $50 million for the PacMan, and no other opponent that he can dance with in the ring would be able to generate that kind of money for him.

Bleacher Report's Tyler Conway suggested that Pacquiao's "next fight should be a rematch" against Mayweather. Conway made the argument that there are no one else for the two all-time greats to fight but each other, not only in terms of their skills but also in terms of the money that they can earn.

"If there is anything boxing fans know, there is only one thing more profitable than a major prizefight: the sequel to a thrilling prizefight," Conway said.

MayPac 2 could again be profitable if the promoters could angle in a storyline about Pacquiao's redemption and to have "the 'aggressive' Pacquiao come back for the second fight," he added.

Meanwhile, Philippine Inquirer's Mark Giongco reported that according to Showtime Sports executive vice president Stephen Espinoza the network is open for a possible MayPac 2 next year. However, Espinoza clarified that the demand for it should be clear before they pursue it.
