ATM users in China may no longer require any pin to withdraw cash or do banking transactions as researchers successfully develop machines with face recognition feature.
In a bid to reduce the number of thefts that happen during transactions at the Automatic Teller Machine, Chinese researchers have developed a new machine that has a unique face recognition feature. The new facility will register users by recognizing their face. The report on NDTV gadget says that China is currently relying on imported technology for its network of ATMs; however, this new machine is developed entirely in China and is therefore expected to reduce this reliance considerably. Additionally, the new machine comes with high-speed banknote handling as well as improved counterfeit-bill recognition. These features help in preventing the occurrence of ATM frauds to quite an extent.

Another report on Latino Foxnews points out that the new ATM machines are expected to be unveiled in the same month as the government is planning to host the Made in China exhibition that will facilitate the cause of domestic innovation. So far, there have been many companies in the United States of America who have tested such technology that relies on finger prints and facial recognition to ensure secure ATM transactions though it is said that there are still several doubts regarding the effectiveness of this system. The new technology was developed by Beijing's Tsinghua University and Hangzhou-based security company Tzekwan Technology.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued to the media, Gu Zikun, Tzekwan chairman said that he was confident that this new technology had the potential to bring down the number of theft-related to the transactions done during accessing accounts at the ATM kiosks. He also confirmed that the product had passed the government certification tests and will soon be launched officially across the country.
However, there are still certain details about the machine that need clarification. For instance, who will manufacture these ATM's? Also, the technology needs to take into consideration variables like situations when people have their facial features changed in an accident or plastic surgery. These concerns about privacy and accuracy are expected to hinder the implementation of the project to quite an extent.
