(Photo : Reuters) South East Asia has recently emerged as a competitor to China when it comes to e-commerce business.
Tech firms like Alibaba are currently inviting applications from candidates who have porn star attributes to take part in their adult websites, indicating a liking for the old styles.
According to PHYS, Mao Zedong, the Chinese Communist Leader, said that in spite of being the world's most populous country, China was far from achieving gender equality even though technology-wise the country has an envious growth figure. The news also quotes Wang Ping from the Zhejiang Academy of Social Sciences who says that the Chinese mainstream society allows objectification of women, and this leads to gender bias. Wang Ping also said that the issue is more serious in the corporate sector where a large part of the workforce are males.

The issue was also highlighted in Sheryl Sandberg's 2013 book "Lean In." Sheryl is the Facebook Chief Operating Officer. When the book was translated into the regional language and released in China, it failed to stimulate a debate around the seriousness of the issue.
The report on China National News also points out that E-commerce giant Alibaba is currently hiring candidates with porn star attributes to handle their adult websites indicating that old -school sexism still finds a place in the corporate world. Recently, JD.com, a NASDAQ listed firm, triggered a major online controversy when it showcased images of health workers in scantily clad clothes, on the occasion of International Nurses Day. In the online outrage, people voiced their opinion against the campaign and even proclaimed to end their association with the brand as well as its offerings.
Just a few days ago, the Chinese authorities arrested female activists who were planning to distribute posters to commuters in public transport to educate them about the growing cases of sexual harassment. In fact, Chinese technology firms have a well-known history of inviting Japanese porn stars for their events. For example, NetEase, an internet firm, invited Anri Okita to its offices in 2013. The famous porn star ate lunch and took photos only with male staff. Even the Shanghai-based gaming company Dream did something similar for its annual company party last year.
