On Monday night, Pharrell Williams took home the Fashion Icon Award at the annual Council of Fashion Designers of America awards. It may be the "Happy" singer who received the award, but it was reportedly rapper pal Kanye West who got the attention of the lot.

West, who is expecting baby number two with wife Kim Kardashian, surprised Williams when he presented the award to him, according to E!

Apart from presenting the award, which shocked Williams, West also took the time to say some pretty good things about the fashion icon awardee.

West thanked Pharrell for his guidance with his new designing endeavour.

"Fashion had to be the hardest high school I ever went to, but at least I had a big brother," said Kanye referring to Pharrell.

He "talked me through it and kept me going," West added.

Kanye, 37, added that he presented the award because "Pharrell has always been my style idol."

West added some praises while presenting the award, but being Kanye, he also expressed his frustration towards the fashion industry. He said he hasn't been getting a warm welcome from the industry in his efforts to become a serious fashion designer.

Pharrell received the award and thanked several people in fashion who have had great influence in his career and personal style, including Vogue editor Anna Wintour for offering him visibility in the magazine ten years ago.

"I'm not a style icon. I'm just inspired. And I'm OK with that," he concluded his speech.

Wearing a casual get up with jeans, a blue leather jacket and a beret cap, Pharrell also dove into his love for both music and fashion.

The event's emotional highlight was when Betsey Johnson was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award. She was honored for providing the fashion world with colorful, creative designs for more than 50 years, according to The Associated Press.

James Corden, a British comedian, hosted the show. Celebrity attendees included Ashley Judd, Katie Holmes, Vanessa Hudgens and January Jones, reported RTV6.

Kanye, Kim, Pharrell and wife Helen Lasichanh were seen posing together for a group shot at the event.

The night was Kanye and Kim's first night out after announcing baby number two. Kim wore a sheer gown by Proenza Schouler, showing a barely there baby bump, while Kanye's ensemble was all-black.
