Is Katy Perry's '1984' an Obvious Stab at Taylor Swift's '1989?'

Celebrity feuds are always gossip fodder, especially when one artist tries to get back at another. One of the biggest feuds at the moment is the Katy Perry-Taylor Swift feud, and now with Katy Perry registering her new song "1984," she is presumably throwing her own dose of shade.
The "Dark Horse" singer has reportedly registered a new song entitled "1984," and as Refinery 29 puts it, fuels different speculations that it is the singer's latest dig at the "Style" singer, considering that 1984 is Perry's birth year and the former country singer has "1989" as an album title, which is also after the year she was born.

After it first rolled out during the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, "Bad Blood" was speculated by fans as an apparent shot at Katy Perry, complete with Swift's BFF Selena Gomez donning jet black hair, similar to Perry. Yahoo! Celebrity reports that though the "Blank Space" singer never confirmed it, she did mention in an interview that she was complete enemies with whomever the song was written for.
Rumors state that the rift between the two started after Katy Perry started dating Taylor Swift's ex John Mayer, but other reports say that the dispute began over backup dancers.
Alternatively, there is a different theory Gawker presents as a plausible but highly farfetched theory: Katy Perry presumably wrote a song about how everyone's life is now under surveillance, how the NSA tries to keep an eye on everyone, somehow inspired by the concept of Big Brother popularized by the novel "1984."
This might seem improbable since pop stars very seldom go that route, but there is always a first time for everything. However, given that it can be an attempt to throw back some shade towards Taylor Swift is a more juicy thought, given that the coincidences are too close to each other. Either way, the fans win because they get great music from both artists.
