In a bold exercise of his right, one man from Shanghai took to court an incident that left him deeply scarred.
The upset man filed a lawsuit before the People's Court of Shanghai Pudong New District against Chinese billionaire actress Zhao Wei for staring at him with her big eyes. According to Shanghaiist, the complaint further stated that intense gazing of the actress caused "spiritual damage" to the claimant. The incident took place as he was watching Zhao on his TV. In return, he demands for just compensation.

Claims of similar nature started to crop up following the implementation of a new filing regulation system in China. Under the new policy, courts are now required to accept legitimate lawsuits unless there are valid reasons for rejection. It also gives more power to citizens to appeal the decision. The regulation was enforced in May 1 and has since raised the number of cases filed. In an article by Yahoo!, figures show that there was a 29-percent increase in May compared to the same month in 2014.
"Authorities are determined to put an end on obstructive behavior by courts and officials meddling in cases," Yahoo! cited the official Xinhua News Agency.
Sina Weibo users immediately questioned the validity of the allegation, with one even asking if the man was "insane." Another called for the condemnation of the "weird lawsuit," reported China Daily. Supreme Court case filing chamber deputy head Gan Wen openly called the case as "a waste of judicial resources."
Zhao currently stars in "Tiger Mom," a TV series that follows the story of an "emotionally unstable" mother. According to Shanghaiist, Zhao's character is known to giving a piercing look at her husband and daughter. A critically acclaimed and award-winning actress, Zhao was recently recognized twice in Hong Kong for her compelling performance in Peter Chan's "Dearest." Apart from acting, her life ventures also include stock market investments that just reached a billion-dollar mark, according to Forbes.
Yahoo! also reported that one court official confirmed that such lawsuit against Zhao exists. However, the said source refused to verify if the court acknowledged the case.
