The Philadelphia Eagles have recently released two-time Pro Bowl offensive guard Evan Mathis to conclude an altercation that has been going on between the two parties for at least two years, according to ESPN.

The 33-year-old former Alabama standout was reportedly disappointed about the five-year contract the Eagles gave him in 2012 that is worth $25 million. He did not attend all of the Eagles' organized team activities this offseason to express his continuing dissatisfaction. If he was not released last week and he decided to still not attend the mandatory minicamp on Wednesday, then he would have been fined.
Last offseason, Philadelphia gave the 6-foot-5, 298-pound Birmingham native consent to try and get an offer from another team so that they could trade him. Even his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, was aware of this condition. The authorization was still in effect during this year's offseason, but no team would still want to deal for him.
This led to the Eagles' decision to let go of the veteran guard. Apparently, head coach Chip Kelly was ready for this day to arrive.
Last season, Mathis played for only nine games because of a knee injury. During the times he was out, statistics revealed that Philly's vaunted rushing attack was better than when he was on the field.
During this year's OTAs, Kelly placed veteran Allen Barbre in Mathis' left guard spot, drawing rumors that the coach is not expecting Mathis to return.
Meanwhile, Bleacher Report indicated that according to his agent Rosenhaus, a lot of teams are currently interested on his client's services. Rosenhaus said that from "now and the start of training camp" he expects that Mathis would have already found "a new home."
At this time, some of the rumored teams that are reportedly intrigued on Mathis are the Buffalo Bills, the New York Giants, the Miami Dolphins, and the Denver Broncos, although no one had formally offered anything to him.
However, a contrasting report from NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk said that Mathis is not rushing to find a new deal even if his agent claims that there are "at least half a dozen" suitors.
Mathis allegedly wants more than the $5.5 million that he would have earned with Philadelphia this year. It is not clear whether any team right now is willing to offer him what he wants.
