Nest is a smart homeware firm that specializes in developing security equipment for premises. The company is headed by Tony Fadell, a technology veteran who was previously associated to Apple. In fact, he is often referred to as the father of iPod due to his close association to the project and its development, during his tenure at Apple.

However, Nest was acquired by Google in a 3.2 billion dollar deal that was finalized in January 2014. Post its acquisition, the company had been out of new for quite some time. But now, according to a report on BBC, Google owned Nest is all set to launch an HD security camera and this will be the company's first product launch after January 2014.
The device is officially being called "The Nest Cam" and will feature a special night vision mode, giving the camera excellent visibility even in relatively poor lighting conditions. Additionally, customers interested to maintain a record will be given a facility of storing videos for up to thirty days. The launch of Nest Cam follows the company's acquisition of Drop Cam that happened in June last year. The new camera will film in high definition with a resolution of 1080 pixels. It is expected to hit markets in the U.K., Republic of Ireland, France, Netherlands and Belgium in the first week of July.
Nest's new camera reportedly seems to be heavily inspired from the Drop Cam designs. All videos will be streamed live and customers can opt for the storage capacity at a nominal extra cost. Another report on USA Today pointed out that the new device will be priced $199 and it will replace Drop Cam in Nest's existing product portfolio.
The device will also work with the other Nest devices in the house. With this new launch, Nest also announced an update to its existing version of its thermostat and smoke detector.
