The Denver Nuggets are reportedly planning to trade starting point guard Ty Lawson to the Sacramento Kings for the team's sixth pick in the coming NBA Draft on June 25, according to NBC Sports' Pro Basketball Talk.

If this deal pushes through, then the Nuggets will have the sixth and seventh picks on draft night which coincides with their plans of rebuilding and retooling under new coach Mike Malone.

Denver had long been intending to deal their inconsistent point guard since before last season's trade deadline, but no team was able to give them an offer that they like. Reportedly, Lawson is also unhappy with the Nuggets for the longest time especially after they fired head coach George Karl before the start of the 2013-2014 season.

Together with power forward Kenneth Faried, the 27-year-old former North Carolina standout also wants the team to make major changes on their roster as soon as possible for them to be able to contend in the crowded Western Conference.

But since the Nuggets' management was unwilling to give in to their demands, the two players have told reporters that they prefer to be traded than to be part of any rebuilding process, via Basketball Insiders' Steve Kyler.

So far, only the Sacramento Kings, with new head coach (surprise!) George Karl, is allegedly trying to reach the Nuggets for a possible deal involving the 5-foot-11 playmaker, as per Bleacher Report.

As mentioned above, Karl was the former Nuggets coach who was fired in 2013 which made Lawson upset in the first place.

This speculation was further confirmed when Malone said in his introductory press conference that he will not change his style for anyone else. The former Sacramento coach is known for having a slow paced, half-court set offensive philosophy, something that Lawson is not expected to thrive given his size, skills, and speed.

But Karl wants to run the ball and push the tempo all the time, and he could not think of anyone else better to execute his set patterns and plays than his former ward Lawson. Aside from that, there is no point guard in the current crop of draftees who is considered better than Lawson which can be picked at no. 6.

All eyes are now on the Nuggets and Kings as draft day approaches.
