West Nile Virus Signs and Prevention: Chicago Negative in Spreading Virus

The Department of Public Health of Chicago already started their yearly prevention of spreading mosquito viruses. Their one effective way is to put larvicle into the basins to lessen the number of mosquitoes carrying viruses and diseases, according to the reports of The Washington Times.

Furthermore, the report says that there are about 10 types of positive samples being identified in Illinois. They did this through the use of mosquito traps around the city and Chicago is still negative on this.
So, to avoid it further the Department of Health is asking people to help them by eliminating standing or stagnant water on containers which is the habitat of mosquitoes. Through emptying water from flower pots, pool covers, gutters, pet water dishes, and even the bird baths could be a very big help to them.
Moreover, doctors are asking people to monitor their family members closely especially their children. Here are the signs of West Nile Virus although most of the time it has no sign at all. But here are the common experiences of someone who happened to have the virus according to reports gathered by Mayo Clinic.
- Back pain
- Fever
- Eye pain (rarely)
- Headache
- Swollen lymph glands (rarely)
- Body aches
- Skin rash (rarely)
- Fatigue
The severe infection signs could be the following:
- Muscle jerking
- High fever
- Muscle weakness or the partial paralysis
- Severe headache
- Pain
- Stiff neck
- Convulsions
- Disorientation or confusion
- Lack of coordination
- Stupor or coma
Usually, West Nile Virus could be treated at home. However, if the patient is already experiencing severe signs like lack of coordination, disorientation, convulsions, or coma then he should seek medical advice and even required for hospitalization.
Orilliapacket.com said the preventing oneself from mosquito bites could be the best and effective way of avoiding the virus. Cut and clean tall grasses in the backyard and even having activities outdoor during the time when mosquitoes are active especially during night time. Wearing light-colored and loose fitting shirts can be a better choice. Moreover, wear pants instead of skirts and shorts. When going out of the house, apply mosquito repellant should not be missed.
