Tech giant Google recently announced that it is developing a health-tracking wristband which can be used for health research. Despite posing interesting health related benefits, the device will not be released as a consumer product.
The device is developed by Google's life sciences group. According to the San Francisco Gate, the health-tracking wristband can be used in several fields including drug tests and clinical trials. The device is reported to contain several sensors that can give doctors real-time data about their patient's health.

The device is still in development stage and is handled by Google X research division, according to CNet. The device has built-in sensors that can measure skin temperature, pulse rate, heart rhythm and environmental information like noise level and light exposure.
Unlike Android Wear devices, Google's new device is not targeted for consumers. Instead, the primary aim is for the device to be worn by patients during drugs tests and clinical trials. This way, doctors and medical researchers can access data on a real-time basis, according to Bloomberg.
Google head of the life sciences team Andy Conrad said, "Our hope is that this technology could unlock a new class of continuous, medical-grade information that makes it easier to understand these patterns and manage serious health conditions."
Conrad said that Google has high hopes for future application of its new device. He added that in the future, devices like the Google wristband can help detect early signs of disease.
Google is currently working with several academic and medical researchers as well as drug manufacturers in order to test the wristband's accuracy. Once it passes medical standards, Google plans to apply for a regulatory clearance in order for the device to be used in the United States and Europe.
Google spokeswoman Jacquelyn Miller said that medical trials set to test the wristband will start in summer. Additionally, Google is also looking for partner companies to manufacture its new device.
Health tracking feature is one of the vital selling point for some of the bestselling wearable devices in the market. The recently released Apple Watch has several health tracking feature which includes a heart rate monitor, work out monitor and fitness tracker.
