The e-commerce giant announced this latest development shortly after it opened the sales of the Echo service to the masses. In an official statement issued to the media, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said that ever since the introduction of the new technology, developers and technology companies have shown their interest to work with the app and make it even better. The company confirmed to invest 100 million dollars as funds to facilitate developers.

The new software developer kit is being called Alexa Skills Kit, and it includes a series of programing interfaces that will help in making more innovative voice features for Alexa. The Alexa voice feature is extremely popular ever since its launch. The funding by Amazon will be focused on developing new hardware for the Alexa voice feature and even explore the new functionality options. The biggest advantage of this new development is that it will allow third party companies to add Alexa to their products.

Another report on CNET notes that Alexa is the new age smartphone speaker. The device can be controlled using a cloud-based voice service. The fund allotted by Amazon is being invested in several projects. The fund is being called Alexa fund, which will also support the development of the Orange Chef connected cooking countertop, the Garageio smart garage door system and the Scout DIY home security system. The ulterior motive of the Alexa system is to realize the dream of a smart home.

As of now, Alexa system already offers voice controls for Philips Hue color-changing LED light bulbs and Belkin WeMo automated plugs. It also has a channel on the free online automation service IFTTT.
