Facebook Supports Gay Marriage: Social Media Platform Will Give Users A Chance To Flaunt Their Pride

On June 26, the American courts delivered a landmark judgement when they legalized same sex marriages in the country. With this move, the government will now be giving equal rights to gay or lesbian couples who want to get married.

The legalization of gay marriage has been a hot topic of debate in America, while several companies from the Silicon Valley have come forth to pledge their support for the cause. This also includes biggies like Apple and most recently Facebook.

According to CNET, Facebook was quick to introduce a new icon in its regular profile through which users will be able to support their gay friends, as well as the legalisation of gay marriages. The new feature is being called the Celebrate Pride Tool. Using this, users will actually be able to superimpose a colorful rainbow on their existing profile picture with just one click.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced the new feature on his personal page, expressing his happiness on the courts for delivering the landmark judgement. Meanwhile, gay community in all the states of America came forward in big numbers to celebrate the feat. Needless to say, the feature was an instant hit soon after its introduction. In fact, even the White House went ahead to use the rainbow on its profile picture.

Apart from Apple and Facebook, other companies to support the cause included Google, Uber and even Salesforce. Another report on Engadget also said that in his morning speech, President Obama called the decision as "justice that arrives like a thunderbolt" and also congratulated the gay community.

Satya Nadella, the Indian origin CEO of Microsoft, said that it was a historic win for America and simply reiterates the country's mission to grant equality irrespective of cast,creed, color or even sexual orientation.
