Duan Yingying of China shocked world no. 12 Eugenie Bouchard of Canada in straight sets, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, to complete the first big upset of the 2015 Wimbledon Championships Women's Singles.

The 25-year-old Duan, nicknamed "Duanvenport" because of her fondness for the former world no. 1 Lindsay Davenport, had tried patterning her playing style with that of the American. She almost has the same height and built as that of Davenport, but would most likely fall short on following her idol who had been world no. 1 when she was 22 years old, as per Xinhuanet.

It was the Tianjin native's first appearance at the England tournament and her first match was an astounding success, beating last year's runner-up of this same tournament. In 2013, she qualified for the competitions but was obliged to pull out as her Tianjin home team needed her to represent them in China's National Games at that time.

But there were no regrets for Duan, who said that she had nothing to complain and she owed everything to her native team. "I can't say no when they need me," she said.

Now, after two years of waiting for another shot at it, the world no. 117 seized the moment to showcase her prowess in the big event.

The South China Morning Post reported that Bouchard blamed an abdominal injury as the cause of her poor performance in her opening match.

During the post-match interview, the Canadian poster girl revealed that she had a "grade two tear" in her abdomen prior to the game. The 21-yeaer-old admitted that she did not prepare enough to keep herself fresh for the long haul.

But as it turned out, she was never going to be in the competitions long enough.

Duan's victory was followed by another upset win just hours later. This time it was world no. 106 Jana Cepelova of Slovakia beating world no. 3 Simona Halep of Romania, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, via the New York Times.

The two consecutive surprise wins were said to have shaken the Women's Singles draws.
