Senator Ted Cruz has auditioned for "The Simpsons." He reportedly wants to replace Harry Shearer on the famous animated sitcom.

The Senator and 2016 GOP Presidential Candidate did his best impressions of the show's characters including Lisa and Homer Simpson, Ned Flanders, alien duo Kang and Kodos, and even Mr. Burns, according to The Business Insider.
Alien duo Kang and Kodos and Mr. Burns were previously voiced by Shearer.
By the end of the Ted Cruz "Simpsons" audition video published by Buzzfeed on YouTube June 30, the Republican made a self-depreciating jab saying, "I have been told many times I have a face for radio and I have a face for animation."
The Ted Cruz "Simpsons" audition comes as a surprise for a politician whose sense of humor, according to the Los Angeles Times, has been questioned at least once.
"To, I think, the slight discomfort of his staff, [Cruz] loves to do impressions," said Ben Smith, the editor-in-chief of Buzzfeed.
Smith added that the idea for the Ted Cruz "Simpsons" audition video was pitched by political video producer Emily Anderson to Senator Cruz. In turn, Cruz had no hesitation and agreed quickly to doing the "audition tape."
"He thought it was a wonderful idea," according to Rick Tyler, Cruz's campaign spokesman. Tyler added that Senator Cruz has been a "lifelong 'Simpsons' fan."
"He's a little bit corny sometimes," said Tyler, before saying, "but he's funny."
The Ted Cruz "Simpsons" audition video may be a first for the Republican senator, but it isn't the first time that a politician has appeared on the long-running animated show.
Both Tony Blair and Rudy Giuliani have starred as themselves on "The Simpsons," according to The Los Angeles Times.
Despite the viral success of the Ted Cruz "Simpsons" audition video, it didn't fare well for Cruz's future in the animated hit.
"He didn't ask permission, we don't endorse a specific candidate and probably most disappointing for him he's not getting the part," "The Simpsons" Executive Producer Al Jean saidin a statement to The Times.
