Red Cross Demands More Donations To Cope Up Incoming Shortages

Red Cross demands people to donate more blood to support and to supply the incoming summer shortage. Recent survey of Red Cross' blood and platelet donors supports this call showing that more than 40 percent of these donors would take vacations on before and after the Independence Day and it was concluded that many may unable to donate.

This forthcoming shortage will affect hospital operations and other surgeries that involve blood and platelet transmutation, according to Daily American.
Not only United States are having these problems but also Australia.
According to the Australian Red Cross, last minute cancellations of blood and platelet donations continue hurting the storage to cope up with the upcoming demands from the centre and hospitals. The Blood Service continue pleading with the people to support and supply more donation despite of this week's recent last minute cancellation of appointments.
Data shows that up to 70 donors per day were cancelling their appointments because of too much busyness. Biggest day of cancellations are in Monday.
Based from the ABC News- elective surgeries and operations in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Atlanta have been cancelled due to critical shortage of blood and platelets. Together with the Red Cross, America's Blood Centres (ABC) represents all the blood banks in U.S, reported that blood and platelet severe shortages always connotes demands at a certain season and it was considered to be one of the worst shortages, according to DonateBlood.com.
Increased of demand, caused by the increasing number of complex therapies such as, heart surgeries, organ transplants and chemotherapy, which known require more amount of blood and blood products.
Cities involved and affected of these shortages plans to cancel elective surgeries and complex operations if necessary for the meantime. Demands are increasing annually by 3 percent and still growing up to 6 percent, according to ABC News.
It needs to have 80,000 units daily on hand, however now it can only supply 36,000 per day.
Shortages are common when summer months when institutions are less likely conducts blood drives.
Still these organizations are trying their best to handle this situation and turned it under control.
