Investigation results ordered by Superintendent Lt. Gen. Michelle Johnson on the athletic department of the United States Air Force Academy has led to the dismissal of three football players and two basketball players from the elite institution.
Prior to the decision, the probing conducted by the Inspector General prompted closer scrutiny of 32 Air Force cadets, which included 16 members of the football team. Among these 16 athletes, seven graduated from the academy.

The investigation was initiated due to "troubling" allegations received by AFA superintendent Johnson, which involved athletes from their famed sports program.
These allegations included the involvement of the athletes on purported sexual assaults, drug use, and academic cheating. The inquiry was centered on the football players at the time-honored organization.
In a report released by the Colorado Springs Gazette, speculations on the reprehensible activities of athletes in the institution reached its peak in a party last December 2011.
Cadets allegedly laced a liquor bottle with "roofies", which is a drug typically linked with date rapes, to take advantage of the women in the party.
Investigators were told that "four or five females did not recall what occurred the following day after the party". In addition, the student witness claimed that "multiple male cadets had sexual intercourse with other unknown females".
In an exclusive statement released to the Gazette, AFA superintendent Johnson acknowledged the gravity of the situation.
"This past behavior was troubling and suggested certain subcultures that were inconsistent with the Culture of Commitment and Climate of Respect we work hard to uphold at USAFA," she shared.
In response to these disgraceful findings, the institution's athletic department has implement some programs aim at ensuring that all cadet-athletes conform to the core values of the Air Force.
The academy, which is situated in Colorado Springs, comprises a student body of 4,000. Graduates of this school are appointed as 2nd lieutenants in the Air Force.
