Chinese and Russian officials have criticized the latest U.S. National Military Strategy, which highlights the military threat that both countries pose to America in the current geopolitical climate.
The 2015 National Military Strategy was released by the Department of Defense on the first day of the month. According to Gen. Martin Dempsey, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the new document is meant to update the national military strategy released by the country in 2011 to reflect the changes that have taken place in the world.

The U.S. 2015 National Military Strategy discusses the threat that terrorist networks in different regions across the world pose to America and her interests. The document also points out certain countries - including China, North Korea and Russia - who allegedly pose a danger to global peace.
On Friday, Hua Chunying, the spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry, said China is "dissatisfied with and opposed to some contents of the US report." She explained that China's construction work in the South and East China Sea is "lawful, justified and reasonable."
Hua went on to condemn the U.S. for exaggerating the threat that China possesses and also reprimanded Japan for blowing the South China Sea dispute out of proportion.
"China is devoted to a path of peaceful development and a national defense policy that is defensive in nature," she said. "The growth of China's national defense capacity is justified, and poses no threat to other countries."
On Thursday, Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman for the Kremlin, also denounced the U.S. 2015 National Military Strategy saying it is confrontational and does not take an objective stand towards Russia, the VOA reported. Peskov went on to say that the document will not help the bilateral relations between both countries.
The U.S. and China have been at loggerheads over the past few weeks due to China's land reclamation project in the South China and East China Seas. Although the U.S. doesn't have any direct interest in the region, many of her allies - including the Philippines and Japan - have appealed to the U.S. government for assistance in stopping China's alleged incursion.
