In China, seeking the services of a third party company, in terms of security code, requires the company to provide the source codes of the program to authorities in order to get a clearance for the project. If whiteCryption fails to comply, Chinese authorities may deem this as a security threat and can issue sanctions to the company.

Xiaomi Inc. is the world's third largest smartphone distributor and is privately owned by a Chinese company. In 2011, Xiaomi released its first set of smartphones, designed and developed by their own company, and since then, taken the tech market by storm. WhiteCryption, on the other hand, is an Intertrust company that sells and provide patented services  to software companies. whiteCryption's services extend to automotive, entertainment and the finance industry, however, they deal with Xiaomi include security solutions to its PC and mobile apps.

Vice president of Xiaomi Hongfeng said, "Xiaomi's main priority in their mobile apps data is to provide app and data security, and Xiaomi couldn't be more proud in extending their trust to whiteCryption's services."

Thorsten Held, managing director of white Cryption, said in his statement that they are proud to be the main provider of Xiaomi's security apps. According to the China News Daily, whiteCryption, on the other hand, failed to disclose whether their services will be extended to Xiaomi's phones that are based in mainland China.

The amount of the deal was not disclosed by both parties.
