Nobel laureate Desmond Tutu is finally out of the Intensive Care Unit but would still have to remain confined to the hospital as per multiple reports.
The Desmond and Leah Tutu's foundation said on a statement Sunday that despite the retired archbishop's completion of all treatments for infection, he will have to stay in the hospital for a few more days for observation, according to News 24.

The 83-year-old's daughter Mpho Tutu said her father, who was already off the intravenously administered intensive antibiotics treatment, was in good spirits when she paid him a visit. He was "filled with gratitude for the care he was receiving and for the love and prayers of friends around the world," she stated in a release.
Anglican Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu was admitted to a Cape Town hospital last Tuesday to undergo treatment for a "stubborn infection," USA Today reported.
His treatment was in no way related to the prostate cancer which Tutu has had for 18 years and is at present dormant — since the medication he was specifically having for his prostate was effective and his prostate-specific antigen count was insignificant — his daughter said in the press release.
Earlier last week, Tutu's daughter said her father is set to take part in less public engagements after he is discharged, The Economic Times has learned.
"My father is not quite as young as he looks so we recognize that his energy is waning a little bit," Mpho Tutu announced during a public update on her father's health.
Born on October 7, 1931, Desmond Tutu is a South African social rights activist who rose to international fame during the 1980s as an opponent of apartheid.
He is admired for his works on human rights and high profile campaigns for the oppressed. Tutu has also rallied to fight tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, poverty and the imprisonment of Chelsea Manning.
Desmond Tutu was reportedly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984, the Albert Schweitzer Prize for Humanitaianism in 1986, the Pacem in Terris Award in 2007 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009.
