It's a good day for the Swedes as hometown favorite Johanna Larsson captures the Swedish Open by beating Germany's Mona Barthel 6-3, 7-6 (7-2). This is Larsson's third attempt to win the country's biggest tournament and with the crowd behind her, she finally managed to topple the defending champion in straight sets.

"It feels quite sick, I'm so happy," said Larsson as reported by The Local. "I really tried to forget that it was the final and run the ball for the ball and I managed very well. To take first title at home is a dream come true."

Throughout the match, the 26-year-old from Boden played aggressively against the fourth seed, coming back from being down a break and capitalizing on every opportunity that she could get. During the second set tie-break, Larsson took a 5-0 lead and dominated Barthel to take her first career WTA title.

"Coming into this tournament I had not won many matches," Larsson told SuperSport. "But I tried to just play my game and stick with my topspin, which is my strength out there. In the end of the match I don't know how it happened, but I won the last point, and of course that's the most important point!"

The celebration didn't stop there as the Swedish no. 1 also took the doubles title along with partner Kiki Bertens, defeating Tatjana Maria and Olga Savchuk 7-5, 6-4. The win put Larsson in the record books by becoming the first player this year to win both singles and doubles titles in a single WTA tournament.

Elsewhere, it's a sweet revenge for Slovakia's Anna Karolina Schmiedlova as she defeated top seed Sara Errani to capture the BRD Bucharest Open with a score of 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. Both players met earlier this year at the Rio Open with Errani winning the tournament, but Schmiedlova proved too strong for the Italian no. 1 this time, beating her in two hours and seven minutes.

"I still cannot believe I won, because it was a really tough match and Sara Errani is an amazing player," Schmiedlova said after winning her second WTA title of the year. "After I won the first set I did everything I could to win the second set, because I couldn't imagine being able to play a third set against her. And I'm really happy I was able to close it out right there."
