The 34-year-old two-time Super Bowl MVP is entering the final year of his six-year, $97.5 million deal with the Giants in 2010. He is supposed to receive $17 million for his efforts this coming season.

Reports emerged last month that there were no negotiations taking place with regards to any planned extension, but Manning was reportedly not worried about it, according to the New York Daily News.

"My focus is on playing good football, winning games, and whatever happens after that happens after that," the two-time Super Bowl champion told reporters in June.

Even Manning's agent, Tom Condon, was confident that his client would get a deal done before the season starts on September. Condon remarked that "quarterbacks always get done" and that the Giants are a strong and established team that does not goof around with their players.

True enough, reports of a contract extension amounting to more than $20 million per year finally surfaced a month later.

The Giants are hoping to keep the three-time Pro Bowler to their side until his retirement, which is the main goal of the long-term extension, as per the NFL's official website.

New York believes that Manning is a franchise player worthy of being compensated as he is actually one of the top 15 signals callers in the NFL today.

Manning is said to be the perfect playmaker for Giants' offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's system, which is why the team wanted to keep him for as long as they can.

After the unfortunate incident involving their star defensive end Jason Paul-Pierre in the offseason, the Giants are yearning for some good news this time around.

Paul-Pierre injured his right hand in a freak fireworks accident during the 4th of July weekend that resulted into an amputated index finger and a fractured thumb. He is still recuperating from his injuries and is expected to miss a bunch of games this coming season. His absence would mean a lot to the Giants' defense.
