Xinjiang continues to suffer from the ongoing heat wave plaguing northwest China's autonomous region. For several weeks now, the area has won the title for the hottest place in China, and residents are already voicing out the suffering they are going through amid the heat wave.

China.org.cn has learned that many local residents are complaining about the heat wave that is apparently making them feel as though they were on a barbecue.

This is not at all surprising since the Xinjiang Meteorological Department issued on Wednesday the highest signal  - the red heat warning - to the cities in the said region.

China's weather warnings follow a four-tier system. The red warning is the highest and is then followed by the orange alert, yellow alert and the blue weather alert signal.

The heat wave has been going on for seven days now and local residents of the 16 major cities are experiencing temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, the temperature in Urumqi even reached the scorching heat record of 41 degrees Celsius. In the "fire state" Turpan city, the temperature even reached an alarming 46 degrees Celsius.

"You can literally feel your skin sizzling under the sun. My wife reminded me to bring salt and pepper with me and rotate myself properly so I can be roasted evenly. I know she was just joking, but it's been too hot for too long," local resident Wang Liyuan said, AsiaOne reports.

Because the weather authorities have issued a red alert, outdoor work are currently suspended since this can lead to heatstroke.

The heat wave is expected to continue until the end of the week, so residents must continue to find ways to beat the heat.

So far, the most common means of locals of beating the heat is using air conditioners. This is evident in the rising demand of air conditioner installation in the affected areas.

Despite the penetrating heat, Xinjiang locals still managed to be optimistic. Some even joked that "humans were almost grilled meat short of a handful of cumin seed" under the heat of the sun. This is of course a reference to the region's famous kebabs, CCTV America has learned.
